Early Signs of Arsenical Poisoning
نویسنده
چکیده
Sir,?S, a Hindu, male, aged 38, consulted me for dark pigmented spots on the palms. Syphilis was suspected, and the Wassermann gave a positive reaction. Anti-syphilitic treatment was commenced with 0.3 gramme of neosalvarsan, for the first injection. Ten minutes after the fifth injection (0.45 gramme of neosalvarsan) there was a thin discharge of serous fluid from the palms, something akin to beads of perspiration. This trivial incident was attributed to the drug being old stock, and the dose was repeated next week, but the same reaction was observed in an aggravated degree. The discharge ceased in less than half an hour, and the pigmented spots have disappeared after these five injections. Is this a case of commencing arsenical dermatitis? Is it advisable to continue to give arsenic?

Medication-induced arsenical keratosis is a rare type of arsenical keratosis. We describe here a case of 70-year-old man to explore the clinical characters, diagnosis and treatment of medication-induced arsenical keratosis in order to improve the understanding of this disease and reduce the misdiagnosis rate. The clinical characters, signs, lab findings as well as progression, diagnosis and tre...
متن کاملSkin cancer caused by chronic arsenical poisoning--a report of three cases.
The association of arsenical poisoning with the development of skin cancer is well-known. In Malaysia, arsenic has been shown to coexist with tin in tin-mining land. Our preliminary investigation has shown that the level of arsenic in well water from a tin-mining area is high. We report 3 patients with cutaneous lesions typical of chronic arsenical poisoning such as hyperpigmentation, keratoses...

The development of 2,3-dimercaptopropanol (British Anti-Lewisite, BAL) by Peters, Stocken, and Thompson (1) has made available a potent antidote for arsenical poisoning. Study of the chemical combination of arsenic with sensitive enzymes and cells indicated that the arsenic could, under certain circumstances, be removed from the cells, and that enzymes could be reactivated by the action of BAL ...
